Message to Demeter from the Artists
.
.
.
After working on the exhibition site, the artists spoke what was on their minds:

Ingo Gunther
“As I have spoken on my feelings toward Demeter many times at various public occasions, I would like to say that I am grateful to be given an opportunity to create something different from my other works. I would like to thank everyone on the Demeter staff and all the people who were involved in the process of making my works.”

Winter and Horbelt
“Among many international exhibitions in which we have exhibited before, Demeter has outstanding qualities, and everything was prepared so that we could work efficiently. Even well-known international art exhibitions do not offer this kind of well-organized support. We would like to thank all the people in the Demeter Office, people who supported us for the installation in the square of Obihiro Station, and Yotsuba Milk Products Co., Ltd for all their support and cooperation. We would like to invite the volunteer staff members to Germany for the next project.”

Casagrande & Rintala
“We have worked on our artworks by ourselves in most cases. We have had volunteer supporters before, but we never had so much help from any other supporters before. Dallas-Kalevala is our most important work, and we are grateful to be given this opportunity.”

Cine Nomad
They have said to their friend in Tokyo that they have been very satisfied with the exhibition, horserace track, and the Mongolian tent in which they exhibited Three Windows. They also said that it gave them a new perspective on Japan. They drew pictures to explain about the exhibition. They said that they are very grateful for all the support they received at Demeter.

Tadashi Kawamata: Absent Racetrack: Demeter’s Debut
.
.
.
On July 13th, the racehorse “Demeter” ran a race at the Iwamizawa Racehorse Track. Mr. Kawamata bought a \10,000 ticket, betting on “Demeter.” “Demeter” lost her pace in the end and finished in seventh place among ten horses. Even though she didn’t win the race, she showed her potential. Mr. Kawamata said, “She didn’t win, but what is more important is that she ran at all. I want her to keep racing after the exhibition”. Let’s cheer for “Demeter!”
Wooden horse racing was held in the Absent Racetrack on July 19th and 20th. Audience members regularly ride five wooden horses, the same size as the racehorse “Demeter,” in the site. The horses were “raced” in the special project site at the Obihiro Racehorse Track.
