On Sunday, September 15 and Monday, September 16, many families
came to Demeter. In the Demeter Kid's Club corner in the Interzone,
many tools and materials were prepared for kids to choose from
to make things. For two days, more than sixty children made crafts
and drew on worksheets.
Surrounding
the stable area of the Obihiro Horserace Field, there are oak
tree forests and there are many acorns on the ground. We used
these acorns to make balancing toys, ponies, and necklaces. Mothers
used wires to make ponies. A girl said, "I didn't know that
we could make toys with acorns. I want to make more at home."
They
also made "face reliefs" with paper plates and made
eight-page picture books from one sheet of paper. In the exhibition
corner, their worksheets and craft works were shown. The children
were pointing out the works that they had made to their parents.
We
planned the Demeter Kid's Club to be just like children's museums,
which are popular abroad. Children could freely choose art and
crafts they wanted to make and exhibit in the space. The children
came to know one another and parents and children talked about
the exhibited artworks through worksheets. Demeter was filled
with the laughter of children this fall.
