Big Success of “Demeter Children’s Exploration Workshop”
.
.
.
On Saturday July 20th, and Sunday July 21st, the “Demeter Children’s Exploration Workshop” was held. On July 20th, the participants explored the extensive Demeter main exhibition site, found their favorite works, and created an “Exploration Map.” The most popular work was the huge tunnel by Winter and Holbert. The children relaxed in the shade and climbed on the structure.

On the other hand, they were afraid of the darkness inside of the stables. However, Mr. Iwai’s Yuki no Upopo was very popular for its dream-like quality. They also liked Ingo Gunther’s small horse objects. Kim Sooja’s video, in which she doesn’t move at all, was surprisingly popular as well. Kids also got into collecting Ms. Ono’s stickers.
Some kids ate their lunch in one nIALL house. It was a good place to rest.
On the second day, a program used related city projects. With directions in their hands to show where they would find featured Demeter artists, the children went around the city to search them out.
Some people pretended to be the artists to confuse them. The kids worked hard to find the real artists. There were times when they asked strangers on the street, “Are you an artist?”

After finding the real artists, they interviewed them. They listened to the artists to talk about their works and enjoyed the artworks. Based on the interviews, they made “An Illustrated Guide to the Artists.”
After they showed the guides to one another, the artists came to join them. They laughed at their illustrations and said, “that really looks like me!” The children enjoyed contemporary art through the workshops and met interesting artists. Those two days were different from their everyday experiences and were very exciting for them.
The next “Demeter Children’s Exploration Workshop” will be held on September 15. We look forward to your participation.
