Yoshihide Otomo’s Solo Performance

Changing from his previous style of sampling and cutting up, Otomo recently focuses on generating sound effects and “listening.” He explores into this solo performance mainly on feedbacks using electric guitar and turntables.
He plays free jazz with a guitar. He also write music for movies/ His sound approach includes different elements such as noises. He plays a turn table as a feedback machine, without using records.

Profile on Yoshihide Otomo
Born in 1959. Otomo is active as a turn table player, guitarist, and a composer, recoding his music and having concerts, in Japan and around the world. He always takes an independent approach and collaborates with various artists. He also writes and plays music for movies especially for Chinese and Hong Kong films and receives high claim at different film festivals such as Berlin Film Festival. In his digital music project “Filament” collaborating with Sachiko M, he completely moves away from the memory music, and works on Cathode, ensemble of traditional music instruments and electronics, and revive 80’s jazz in contemporary perspective “New Jazz Quintet.” He also composes music for Japanese traditional instruments, remixes in various fields and produces musicians.
